Dignity first
People know their own lives. We ask what would help, we listen, and we follow through.
If you are in an emergency or need someone to talk to, there is help.

Communities In Action is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving neighborhoods throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. We meet urgent needs today while building the relationships that make long-term stability possible.
Who we are
We began where most community work begins: a handful of neighbors noticing that the distance between a need and the service that could meet it was too far to walk.
Today Communities In Action operates across six service pillars — food and nutrition, mental health and wellness, public health and HIV/AIDS support, youth empowerment and education, transitional housing, and rehabilitation services.
We work with clinics, congregations, schools, employers, and county agencies from Atlanta and East Point to Decatur, Marietta, and South Fulton. Our role is to make the path between a household and the right resource as short as possible.

How we work
People know their own lives. We ask what would help, we listen, and we follow through.
Trust is built by being where we said we would be, week after week, not by one big event.
Atlanta already has skilled organizations. We link neighbors to them and fill the gaps between.
We track outcomes households care about: a lease signed, a diagnosis treated, a diploma earned.
Our focus
Consistent access to fresh, culturally familiar food for households across metro Atlanta.
Judgment-free support, group sessions, and referrals to licensed local clinicians.
Testing events, prevention education, and connection to ongoing care and treatment.
Mentoring, tutoring, and leadership programs that help young people build momentum.
Stable interim housing paired with case management and a plan for what comes next.
Recovery-centered support, accountability, and reentry resources for adults rebuilding.
